Simon Kennedy is professor of vascular pharmacology at Glasgow University. Although in a teaching-focussed role he is still research-active and is interested in the modulatory effect of perivascular adipose tissue on vascular function and the role of the sphingolipid system in blood vessels. At Glasgow University, Professor Kennedy serves as the Senior Senate Assessor for Student Conduct, is one of the elected Senate Assessors on the University Court, and sits on the Education Policy & Strategy Committee, Finance Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, and the Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA) Committee. He is an active member of the British Pharmacological Society, serving on their Awards Committee and Education & Training Committee and is on their Ambassador Scheme to promote the in vivo undergraduate curriculum. He was elected as Honorary Treasurer in 2021 and served as Treasure-elect during 2022. He will become Honorary Treasurer in January 2023. Other external academic associations include being part of the editorial board of two top-ranking pharmacology journals, an external examiner at two Russell Group universities, and treasurer of the Scottish Cardiovascular Forum.
